Navigating Marketing Photography in a New Town Where You Know No One is Challenging

Welcome back! The government didn’t shut down (yet), I haven’t been laid off (yet), but I have fully gone balls to the wall on marketing my photography business just in case. Since I last posted, McMillan Moments Photography is back in FULL swing. As always, I’m not really entirely sure what I’m doing. Of course, I’m doing my research and learning all the SEO things, but man it’s not exactly straightforward.

Starting/Restarting and Marketing A Photography Business When You Don’t Know Anyone

Typically, we haven’t really had an issue getting sessions scheduled where we’ve lived because we knew people. We had connections, we had humans and friends who wanted pictures. Now, we’re in a place where we don’t know a soul, and man, it’s been a bit of a challenge.

I luckily jumped on an opportunity to take pictures of a neighbor who just got engaged! Hopefully that really helps me take off here. It was easily the best session I’ve done…I also say that every time, but I think that’s good that I feel like each session is better and better.

Desperate Times Desperate Measures – Swiftie Marketing

Is it desperate or genius that I made Taylor Swift friendship bracelets with my insta tagged on them for the Taylor Swift Movie? Felt desperate, but I’ve already gained a few clients! It was also such a cool way to connect with people over our shared love of Taylor Swift.

Drew is also working on getting his drone license to be able to make some extra doll hairs himself. Honestly, while we’re both in good jobs and DINK life, things are SO expensive right now. I’ve read that so many people are feeling this way too. It’s nice to know we’re not alone, but like when is it going to end?

What I’m Doing to Grow

Like I said, I’m not really fully sure of what I’m doing. Obviously, I’m researching SEO info, algorithm cracking, and trends, but man it’s a full time job trying to grow naturally. I have a family, a couple, and an engagement session lined up for the next few weeks. From those I’m banking on at least a few more to come from it.

Today, I’m going to work on making business cards and digital business cards, because I think those are important to at least have on hand. I’m also going to look at trending audio and pop a reel and tiktok on my pages – Mcmillanmoments.photo (insta), Mcmillan Moments (Facebook), and Mcmillanmoments (TikTok). I’m also gonna touch up my website.

I also really want to do a lifestyle session with Drew in our kitchen, but I first gotta convince him… so off I go to do those things. Hopefully the next time I write I have more than 427 followers, most of which are not in Texas.

And if you’re reading this, if you have friends who are trying to start up their small business, WHATEVER it is, please for them: LIKE, COMMENT, SAVE, SHARE, MESSAGE, ENGAGE with their content. It really matters for their visibility and the algorithms. The more people interact with their stuff, the better and then their pages/content will get shared to people they aren’t following.

It’s literally free to do these things to help people, so please do it if you can for your friends <3
